These blanks have not been clipped. The wires have not been folded so that they can be easily adjusted. They are tied with nylon string and sealed with shellac.
Each box contains 300 pieces of 22 gauge cut bassoon reed wire. The pieces are cut to 75mm.
70/30: Yellow Brass Wire: (70% Copper, 30% Zinc, Lead-Free) – This is a balanced brass alloy that offers a good mix of flexibility and strength. It holds its shape well while allowing for easy adjustments. It’s a great all-purpose option.
85/15: Red Brass Wire: (85% Copper, 15% Zinc, Lead-Free) – With a higher copper content, this wire is softer and more malleable than yellow brass. It’s easier to adjust but may not hold its shape as firmly over time. Many reed makers like it for its ease of manipulation
NiAg: Lead Free Nickel Silver Wire – This wire is the stiffest of the three. It holds its shape extremely well and provides strong support to the reed. However, it’s less forgiving when making adjustments.

The ability to try new things, experiment, and customize one’s experience is imperative to growth as an artist, and Barton Cane makes this easy by providing a wide array of profiles and shapes with clear and easy-to-read comparison of dimensions. Julie and David have the right priorities in life and the service they provide allows you to spend a little more of your own time living away from the reed desk!
